A map of a part of Southern Kari. There are marked points of interest: The mountain fort of Tarkherheim, a place called the Darkwell, the Old Hallows Forge, a dark tower called "Ogghas Tower", a strip of desert called Zinkos Waste. South of the waste are a forest called the Hornforst, a misty field called the Hazesteppe, a castle in the hills called Castle Gray and a large port city in th east called Tolberg

Mapping the lands of the Kari

Tolkien and others set the rules: A fantastic world is not complete without a map. This is for me among the more difficult things to make. I cannot draw myself a way out of a paperbag.

But in order for my players to understand where they can go, what they can explore, and how far things might be apart, they do need a map!

So I am making one. Thankfully there are options to do this a bit easier, with clipart and functionality to make things look nice. I’m slowly getting the hang of this. The hard bit is finding a balance of filling the map with interesting bits, but not making it too full. Also, don’t ask me about scale – but I think one hex is about a week of travel?

But yes: You should have a map. The final game will come with one like the above that you can use, as well as a blank one where you can fill in the places of interest yourself. And if your version of the Kari empire looks entirely different? That’ll be cool, let me know!
