The Hazesteppe is a large area separating the Tarkher mountain range from the fertile inner lands of the south. For some reason, the steppe is mostly covered in fog and mists. The climate there is wet, cool and dreary. It used to be home for a large number of shepherding nomads, who only congregated once per year in the central city of Haileshedoah, to find mates outside of their own family, to celebrate and shelter through the three months of storms.

Trade routes through the Hazesteppe were maintained by the Mistwardens, empire-appointed rangers who ensured that caravans could safely find their way through the mostly featureless steppe.

Finding a safe route through the Hazesteppe would finally open up further exploration into the south.
