In the heyday of the Kari Empire, before the war with Arismyth, the Old Hallows Forge enjoyed an excellent reputation. The facility was never large, but well fortified at the end of a rocky gorge. To visitors, the forge always presented itself first as a fortified wall at the end of a long rock crevice.
Roofs could be seen over the battlements, and the air was filled with the noise of the nearby waterfall. A total of about 50 people lived and worked here: a handful of blacksmiths, a few miners, a few clergymen (some living here permanently, some passing through) and, of course, the servants who took care of the livestock and other operations.
A few months ago, adventurers first reported having tried to enter the forge. They told stories of undead, green-skinned creatures, vicious rats, and other dangers. They had lost some of their group to the dangers of the forge, and returned a while later to "clear it out", as they claimed it.
Patrons at the Tarkherheim Inn were delighted to hear that the heroes managed to crush a greenish crystal, defeating a fire demon in the process.
Now another group ventured to the old forge, trying to recover whatever treasures might be left. To their dismay, they encountered a group of cultists who were once again bringing these green-skinned devils into the world!
All of these cultists and orcs are now slain, but something is still stirring in the deep mines...
